The customer operates a contract laboratory for chemical and microbiological analyses. The LIMS (Laboratory Information and Management System) is used to control and document all steps of the value chain. As part of the company’s digital transformation, all existing paper-based processes are to be optimized and integrated into the LIMS.
The central LIMS is continuously evolving in an agile manner and with the assistance of DevOps methodology. The primary focus is on implementing new modules to support departmental processes. A comprehensive user rights and workflow concept, along with a seamless audit trail, are also being implemented to ensure end-to-end compliance. The ultimate goal is to achieve comprehensive and robust automation.
As part of this ongoing development, new modules have been developed for processing pharmaceutical samples, and existing modules have been adjusted to meet new requirements. Collaboration with external partners is also taking place to integrate third-party modules into the LIMS.
Originally designed as a 2-tier application, a middleware has been integrated into the software, gradually streamlining many manual tasks. Particularly in the sample processing domain, the middleware now automates nearly all steps, from sample registration to approval and generation of analysis certificates.
To ensure high quality and early feedback, separate DEV, TEST, and PROD environments have been established. A comprehensive change management process, including risk analysis, has been implemented.
By adopting an agile approach, the customer gains the ability to flexibly influence and adapt to changing requirements. The short communication channels and close collaboration foster a shared alignment towards project goals. Through this collaboration, the digitization of the value chain is being driven forward, ensuring that the company is well-prepared for future demands.
I will gladly contribute my experience and help you with the implementation.
